In 1983, the rapidly growing city of L.A. and beachfront communities were active in the illicit drug trade, successfully operating through Angels Gate Lighthouse, and LAX, the gateway to the City of Angels. This true story is a recounting of the largest monetary heist in history, carried out by four local surfers, and August Taracina, a successful marijuana smuggler. The heist progresses with only minor hitches, until they open the bags of loot. Much to the thieves chagrin, there is no cash, no gold, nothing but financial instruments, unable to be cashed. While still in command of one of the larger marijuana smuggling operations on the West Coast, August begins a whirlwind, worldwide tour with his connections to organized crime, the Medellin Cartel, and international bankers, as he attempts to fence the items. Other gangs, along with their treachery and murder, as well as FBI Agent Nick Cutlers team, the Treasury Department, and Interpol pursue him. During this maelstrom, August devises an incredible plan to satisfy everyones interest and fulfill their dreams. Now, all he has to do is MAKE IT HAPPEN!… (más)

I received this book for free from Members Giveaway. The premise seemed interesting. The true story of one of the largest heists that ever happened. I'm going to say first what I didn't like about the book. Too much detail!! I don't care what streets they turned in L.A. nor do I care the explicit sexual activities of August or what he named his penis. Too much information!

This is the true story of what happened in 1983 in L.A. of one of the largest monetary heist in history. The culprits 4 surfers and August Taracina, a successful marijuana smuggler. The only problem was once the job was over they discovered the only thing they had was financial instruments that they can't cash.

You find yourself so drawn into this story it's hard to believe that its true. Page after page of thrills and you can't wait to fin dout the ending and when you do you wish for a few more pages. Some advice would be to start in the morning on a day when you have nothing to do. I received this from LibraryThing. ( )

I really liked the story in this book. The characters and locations had great descriptions that helped the story come alive. In addition, the author's writing style made the story just fly by. While I didn't like what the characters were doing, I did find the story to be enjoyable. ( )

Thrilling True Story That Should Be Made Into A Movie

This action-packed, thrilling true story about the largest heist in history is a truly great read. Well researched and expertly-told, Angels Gate is a gripping tale about a group of surfers and a successful marijuana smuggler. Money laundering, drug dealing, cartels, the FBI, and Interpol are only a small portion of this amazing story.

Great True Crime book worth reading.

Highly Recommended!! ( )

During the post-WWII lull in the late 1940s, Southern California sea routes reopened on a peaceful Pacific, and illicit drug trafficking again grew exponentially by sea, land and air, smuggling anything from bonded booze to Mexican black tar heroin.
