It shows their journey from being small bicycle shop owners to working towards the invention of the first “workable flying machine.” This book is about two brothers, which invented the first successful plane. Wilbur and Orville Wright the two brothers own a small bicycle chop in Dayton Ohio. They heard of a German Pilot who had died trying to fly his gliders. The two brothers decided to successfully fly one themselves. The spend seven years working on the machine at Kitty Hawk. They tried several times and fail. The Wright brother added wind tunnels and cotton wing cover. The brothers decide they needed an engine. Back at their bicycle shop Charlie Taylor help them build an engine. The last time the brothers tried to fly the glider. It was in the air for 59 seconds and travel 852 feet. I thought the book was good for student that likes to read comic books. The book is in a comic stripe style. I like the format of the book. Even with it being about history, this book makes the story interesting. Bill Wylie did a good job on the pictures in this book. The book is a little long, so it would be for older elementary or a student with a longer attention span. The book is not a chapter book. This book would be great during history time. I think the book would be great to prefer to, if a students is interested in flying. Before reading this book to the class, I would ask if the class new who the Wright brothers are. After reading, I would discuss how they tried and fail but keep on trying to make the glider work. Maybe for extra credit the students could invent an object themselves. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

It is early in the twentieth century, and, to most, the idea of human flight is ludicrous--with good reason. There have been many failed flying attempts. Still, the Wright brothers will not let their dreams die. They brave heavy winds and rain, sandstorms, and tough crashes--all in an effort to build the first successful flying machine. In this engaging and dynamic graphic novel format, award-winning author Bob Burleigh has collaborated with Bill Wylie to re-create a gripping tale of trial, error, and, ultimately, triumph.
