I'm a fan of Japanese sagas, and I was pretty impressed with this six-issue series (I read the individual issues rather than the trade paperback but I'm too lazy to add them separately; the TPB comes with an additional prose story that also appears on the author's blog). It's set in the early Edo period where clan treachery was the norm. The story starts as one clan is pretty much wiped out by opposing forces, but three members manage to escape. As they slowly seek revenge, their paths tend to wander off in different directions until they reunite in the end -- with a character reappearing to help out. My only complaint is that almost every panel has some sort of "samurai commentary" (usually about revenge) that keeps the thread going, but I would have rather the beautiful art be able to speak alone; it was a little "talky" where silence would have been better. Still, fans of Kurosawa's samurai epics should enjoy this one.
