usually I give Alex Cross books 4 or 5 stars. I liked it as it moved fast and had my favorite characters but it had two different mysteries that I kept waiting to intertwine but they didn't. Oh well...it made for a good cold day read! ( )

I'm really getting fed up with the Alex works too much and is never there for his family subplot...how often can you beat that dead horse?

Alex Cross and his family are celebrating Christmas Eve when a father takes his ex-wife and children hostage, but just as this situation is being dealt with a second situation explodes that puts millions at risk and Alex is forced to make a decision that may end as many lives as it saves.

Tense holiday reading as Alex risks his life to work in two very dangerous situations at Christmastime. Suspenseful, fast-paced, lots of action, easy read that kept me interested throughout. ( )

Another fast and fun Alex Cross book. I will admit that sometimes the series is getting a bit predictable but I still enjoy reading them. I love the Cross family and Sampson, as well as Alex. I will continue to read until Patterson decides to stop with this series. This one had two stories in it. Both, of course, put Alex in danger and reconsidering his life choices. The fist one was a hostage situation and the second an interesting twisted terrorist plot. Of course, the good guys win and Alex goes home to his family in the end. ( )

Weak effort. Basically James Patterson wove a short story about a hostage situation involving a lawyer down on his luck threatening to kill his family and a neighbor (wife of a Congressman) and a novella involving the capture of a female terrorist, who escaped from his last novel. With larger than normal print and leading and his 2 1/2 page chapters, Patterson stretched his 200 page book ti 320. The only unifying element was both occured on Christmas, taking Alex away from his family. The strength of this series are Alex's relationships with his partner, wife, and family, which were basically ignored this time. Patterson can and has done much better for his readers. ( )
