Independent Reading Level: 3rd Grade/4th Grade I enjoyed this version of, The Three Little Pigs, but it honestly was not my favorite version. I really enjoyed the pictures though and though they were very visual and drawn out well. This book did not have much vocabulary, but a lot of repeating patterns. I was able to tell quickly with this story a beginning, middle, and end. Not sure about this version but will buy at least one version for my future classroom. I loved this classic fairy tale as a child, and I loved reading it again now. First, I think the use of repetitive phrases is a great component of literature. For example, “I will huff, I will puff, and I will blow your house down.” I liked this because it is fun as a reader to predict what will come next in the story. Next, I liked the use of animals in this book. I believe that using pigs and wolves is a good book concept for fairy tales because it allows for a universal theme. There are no differences in race or culture because the main characters are animals. I believe that the overall message of this book is that you can work hard to reach a goal. I liked this because it demonstrates to readers that not everything comes easily in life. Although this is obviously a fairytale, I think it provides a good message to readers regarding perseverance. This retelling of the "Three Little Pigs" was not at all any more fun to read than the original. This text had almost the same plot as the original "Three Little Pigs," except in the ending, the wolf tries to climb down the chimney of the house made of bricks. The pig has made a fire in the house of bricks, so the chimney is too hot and the wolf runs back into the forest and is never heard from again. This text has fun illustrations and an easy plot for young readers to follow along with, especially when teaching sequencing and plot. However, those who have already heard the "three little pigs" story will not find it too enjoyable. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
