Queen of the Conqueror taught me that being highly educated is important as faithfulness. Be your own person and be true to your values and precepts that were taught to you.

"Love flows from kindness, patience, and honor. Kindness in attitude and trust. Patience to support those that you love through their storms and tribulations. Honor to know that fidelity and a can-do spirit in spite of all the odds will stand against the test of time." ( )

This was extremely readable and interesting. ( )

A good book, about William the Conqueror's beloved wife. It reads more like a novel than a heavy and serious non fiction work. ( )

It was interesting to read about the life and times of Matilda, but this book was marred by the way the material was presented.

I didn't like reading about events in Matilda's life only to be told afterward that the story had been embellished or completely fabricated. I would have liked a brief disclaimer before such accounts. As it was, I ended up reading much of the book with a skeptical eye, doubting each detail, constantly waiting to be told, "No, this didn't really happen."

Two related notes:

1) The 19th century source should have been left out.

2)Early in the book the story of the "rough wooing" was debunked, but later the author seemed to refer to it as fact, so what am I to believe? ( )

This book starts by claiming that there is so much to know about Matilda (Grandma Matilda as I like to call her!) but then proceeds to go on and on more about those around her as well as giving a number of unsubstantiated stories that supposedly took place in her life but probably didn't. On top of that, the writing was not nearly as engaging or compelling as other contemporary English historical writers such as Alison Wier...but then, nobody beats Alison Wier. ( )
