A well-written book and a good start to the series. Jacob achieved his goal, but with enough loose ends that he has to go back and solve them. ( )

Okay, well, I'm done...just done.

This was a "Firstreads" book and free, so there's that. The author is cute as a bug and wrote a very nice note at the front of the book as well. I think that middle graders might really like it, but it definitly didn't pull me in, in fact, I've been trying to read it for weeks now.

I am giving it to my 11 year old nephew, if he likes it, I'll up my stars accordingly, since it was written for his demographic anyway.

For me, this was not a cross-over YA fantasy like a The Hunger Games or a Harry Potter Boxset that is going to appeal on a large scale to adults.

I'll let the kid decide it's ultimate fate as far as this review... ( )

This book is about a kid named Jacob Clark. One day when he was playing basketball he heard his younger sister scream. He went over to her and saw two huge wolves, that chased him into the forest by his house. they chased him into a big hollowed out tree. There was monster in there so Jacob ran out and a bunch of short people trapped it in a cage. They told Jacob that he was chased into a different world and that they are called Makalos. They told him it wasn't safe for him to stay in their village any longer.
They said he needed to find a key that can take someone any where. The Lorkon an, evil group of people, took it from the Makalos. The Lorkon were planning to destroy Jacobs world and the one he was in. Jacob and a Makalo named Akeno went to gp get the key. First they went to visit someone named Aldo to get information , but he turned out to be crazy so they kept going. They went to a village to get a journal that had information and a pretty girl named Aloren went with them. They continued on to the Lorkon castle and on the way Jacob finds out that he has powers.
I thought this book was really good. I liked how Jacob found out he had powers and how many surprise there were. It's cool that there are different species and monsters. I like the Minyas , which are little people that are messengers and can teleport. I like the challenges that they have to over come. This book is like The Lord of The Rings. This is a really good book/series and i wish there were more books in this series. ( )

The Key of Kilenya (Kilenya #1) by Andrea Pearson is a wonderful fantasy for middle grade to teens (and adults too!). It is fast moving and filled with strange creatures and magic. Jacob finds himself in a new world fighting for his life, other people's lives, and their whole world. There are surprises, surprises, surprises! Lots of action, emotions, great dialogue, and humor. A fun and enjoyable read. Can't say more, hate spoiler reviews. Great job! ( )
