Also have Penguin (108) ed., 1954, 256 pp. ( ) This is not quite a novel, really. It is a series of tales told by Kai Lung, master storyteller in an ancient China utterly charming. It is like a novel, though, in that poor Kai Lung has an arc story to go through, and in this arc Bramah hangs the tales. A classic work of "Orientalism," and thus I'm sure totally unacceptable to modern thinkers. But it was not written for them. It was written for those who like droll stories told elegantly, with wit and good humor. And some sense of mystery. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

1928. The third in Bramah's Kai Lung series of fantasy novels. Kai Lung Unrolls His Mat, like the others in the series consists of thinly connected stories related by Kai Lung, concerning the adventures of the storyteller and his lady love Hwa-Mei versus the wicked but ever-smooth Mandarin Shan Tien and his despicable accomplice Ming-Shu. Kai Lung's adventures are related with humor and irony, his shrewdness and wisdom conveyed in euphemisms, paradoxes and parables. Bramah's droll writing style went a long way toward making the Kai Lung series so popular. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
