This boy’s coach told him and all the other students to remember to wash their gym clothes or they would come to life. The boy did not listen and he kept forgetting to wash his gym socks. Eventually, his socks smelt so bad he didn’t want to bring them home in fear of stinking up the bus and his socks came to life. His stinky socks followed him all over. I have been reading this book since I was little and still really like it. The first reason I like this book is that the pictures match the text. As silly as it is to see a pair of socks following a boy around, the illustrations show the movement of the socks through the hallways, jumping out of the washing machine, and even down sidewalk. The other reason I like this book is because it is told from the point of view of the boy the stinky socks belong to. I think having the book told from the boy’s point of view was a great way for the readers to feel how he was feeling. For example, when camping with his scouts he says, “then those stinky socks ruined my sleep-out. The other scouts made me move my tent to the next hill. Even the mosquitos didn’t want to sleep near my socks!” This gives the reader the opportunity to understand how he was feeling without him having to tell us he was embarrassed by his stinky socks.
