Sixteen-year-old Autumn goes to stay with her friend Carley in Castleton, Maine, for the summer. All she's expecting is a normal couple of months hanging out at the beach with friends. Nothing out of the ordinary is supposed to happen. But as soon as she arrives she meets Holt Roth. Holt is unlike anyone she's ever met before - and her reaction to him is even more unexpected. Then she meets his friend, Samuel Cheshire. If her reaction to Holt was strong, her reaction to Samuel is shocking. The only problem is that he seems to hate her for no reason at all.Not being able to choose between two guys is only the beginning of Autumn's problems, because both Samuel and Holt are Fairies, and Autumn is caught between her own desires and the Fairy Courts, who might cause her immeasurable pain if she makes the wrong choice.… (más)

One Black Rose (One Black Rose, #1) by Maddy Edwards

Sixteen year old Autumn goes to stay with her friend Carley in Castleton, Maine, for the summer. Once she arrives she meets Holt Roth, a boy unlike any she has ever met before. She also meets his friend Samuel Cheshire, but the reaction to him is quite the opposite.

Soon she learns that they are Fairy Princes and she has to chose one of them. For little does she know , she is destined to be a Fairy Queen. For Autumn this summer will not be ordinary and she will be faced with many choices.

The plot is original and moves at a steady pace. The characters are well developed. There is a good mix of likable, and not so likable characters. Overall I found One Black Rose to be a delightful enjoyable read. i highly recommend to Adult and young/adult readers who love a unique, fascinating Fairy story. ( )

I devoured this book in one evening. Easy to read, entertaining, it allowed me to escape into the world of fairies in a gentle and pleasant way.

The atmosphere is really relaxed, sulkiness is banned here even though Autumn seems to ask herself too many questions. The reader waits for responses who sometimes can be deduced before being released by the words of Maddy Edwards.
Far from being a criticism, I actually rather enjoyed it. This proves that the elements of the recipe has worked well on me!

The author takes up the theme of conflict between the fairyland: the battle between winter and summer. But the effects are effective in a story well portrayed where the reader is swept away by the story as gently led by the hand ... It is guided by the author and I liked the landscape shown during my trip. This is essential!

A gentle stroll in the heartwarming scenes of magic around flowers or when spending time with Holt with the warmth and carefree the others characters of summer. More hardness, darkness and coldness in interactions with the fairies of winter. Threats, fears and feeling more discreet during the presentation of Samuel and his family. Without being able to catalog in black and white, I suspect a complexity in the plot or with the characters feelings should happen in "August"

Magic, romance, duality, difficult choices, friendship, fights are the elements of the first installment in "One Black Rose" series. Enjoy the ride.
