In WW2 Paris, young Lisette Beaucaire is sent by her parents to live with her aunt for safety. However, the plan backfires when it turns out her aunt Josephine is hiding several Jewish and Gypsy children from the Nazis. The problem with this book is the appearance of a ghost, Gerard, who was a rising disciple in the Knights Templar, and helps Lisette at a critical moment. Boring and preposterous. ( ) Not a typical witch story from Vande Velde. Yes, there's a ghost, so presumably some magic. However, it's mainly an illumination of human nature & history - pointing out that real evil is always among us. We can resist, or we can hide or withdraw, but whether it's the collapse of the era of the Crusades or the early part of WWII, but we must understand that evil can come for anyone, anytime. Sent by her parents to rural France to avoid the Nazi occupation, Lisette grumpily takes care of a large brood of refugee children. Meeting the ghost of a knight is only the beginning of her problems. The book starts out with too much scene-setting, but once Lisette is on her own the story takes off. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
