This book is about a girl and her aunt "Tia Isa". Her aunt is saving up to buy a car, sadly she does not have enough. Since the family resides in a different country the Tia Isa sends money to them as often as she can. The narrator decides to help her Tia collect more money to buy the car she desires. This book is great for students because it teaches them the importance of money and saving. As well as helping those you love achieve their goals. I loved this book. ( )

This book tells the story of Tia Isa who works to save up for a car for her family while unknowingly receiving help from her niece who also works and saves her own money. This story has many examples of similes and other parts of speech within the book that students can further explore. While doing this students can be exposed to different cultures such as the Hispanic culture which emphasizes the importance of family. This being what prompted the niece to save her money for her Tia. Overall this would be a great book to implement into an English classroom to better understand different cultures while learning about different parts of speech. ( )

Tía Isa's niece narrates the story of their joint goal of getting a car to drive to the beach. In the course of the story, it becomes clear that the narrator is living with her aunt and uncle and sending money back to the rest of their family, including the girl's parents, on their home island. The final double page spread ("Tía Isa and I bought a car. / To carry us all to the sea") shows aunt, uncle, girl, and her parents at the beach together.

I loved how this book conveyed a message about how if you work hard and help one another your dreams can come true. In this story Tía was determined to get a car and the little girl helped her to reach this goal through earning money herself. I liked how the story pushed readers to see the perspective of a young girl who lives with her aunt and uncle rather than her mother and father due to financial reasons. I also really enjoyed how there were words written in Spanish throughout the book. This really added to the characters in the story. ( )
