This is a fun book. It I enjoyed it and shared it with my students via our school library. I even added it to the "Must Reads" list. I agree with another reader who mentioned the lack of character development, but the setting was the star of the show to a certain extent, so I wasn't overly bothered by that. I would love to read a sequel! ( )Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. Although I have mixed feelings about this book, they really have nothing to do with the book itself and more about the way I read it. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I had to put it down for long stretches of time while reading it for outside reasons. I plan on reading it again soon in a more continuous manner before rating it.Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. I really enjoyed this book! I had so much fun reading it I have decided to share it with my 4th graders, as a read aloud. The story moves fast and leaves the reader wanting to know what is going to happen. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. I enjoyed this book, with its original, imaginative premise and sense of mystery and adventure. The idea of a nightstand that is far bigger on the inside than on the outside, which opens up into a world that connects to other special pieces of furniture, is fabulous, and combined with the mysterious disappearance of a wood-working uncle and the appearance of strange men who are looking for him make for an exciting opening to a story. I did feel a little let down toward the middle and end of the book with its uneven pacing, and because I felt like sometimes the conventions set up in the book were not entirely consistent or believable within the framework of the story. Unlike some other readers I didn't mind that the end seemed to set up a sequel, as I thought the story was self-contained enough to work on its own, but I felt that there was a lack of character development given the length of the book, which may be the reason I'm not that interested in following the characters on the rest of their adventures. The story line and the characters were so unique and special that the book seemed to have its own personality. I enjoyed the entire book, and though the book had a few flaws here and there, they were so tiny that looking back I could not even name one. At the end, there is certainly promise for a sequel, and I cant wait for it. From page one, the story had me entranced and I could not put it away until I had read through the last page. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
When Uncle Gary mysteriously disappears, all he leaves behind is a mountain of sawdust and a nighstand that his eleven-year-old nephew, Billy, inherits. When Billy is awakened at night by noises from inside the nightstand, he takes a closer look and discovers a hidden panel that opens to an antique maze of wooden corridors.
