This book is about a little vampire who can't sleep because of all the different noises going on around him at night. He was scared but then he realized since he is a vampire they sleep throughout the day. He told all the bats and skeletons and etc to go to sleep because it was day time. Now he can finally get some rest. ( )

Highly Recommended

This is the perfect book for little children fascinated by nighttime creatures. The main character is a very pale baby vampire, although he is not meant to be scary. The other characters introduced include bats, spiders, cockroaches, a werewolf, skeletons, a witch, and ghosts. None of them can sleep because they are supposed to be awake at night. Although, when the sun begins to come up, they all go to sleep. Children will giggle at the opposite behavior of their own bedtime. The illustrations are bright and colorful, but very gothic. They are not scary and it a cute introduction to the world of the supernatural.

This book is great for Halloween or for a bedtime library display. Vampires have been huge in the YA book world and this was a cute way to make a vampire book for little kids. It is a great read aloud for an elementary library because of the sounds the reader has to make. There are elements of foreshadowing that could be used to meet some Common Core or state standards. I think the little ones will notice all the details like how the vampire goes to bed with a stuffed Frankenstein. If gothic can be happy, this is a good book to use as an artistic example. Parents will like it too, to poke some fun at bedtime struggles. A great buy for any library with a picture book collection. ( )
