NCLA Review: This latest book by prolific author Kim Vogel Sawyer is set in Fort Yukon, Alaska in 1898. Lizzie Dawson, also known as “White Feather” is of mixed heritage being part Athabascan and part white. She is shunned by the Athabascan people of her village because of her white blood. After the abandonment of her father and the death of her mother, she lives alone in a remote cabin at the edge of the native village. She longs to fulfill her mother’s dying wish of reconciliation with her people, especially her grandmother. Clay Selby and his sister Vivian come to the remote Alaskan village as missionaries. This is not so much a romance between Clay and Lizzie as it is a book of the friendship between Lizzie and Vivian. In some aspects Clay is a shallow and one-dimensional character who is difficult to like in his narrow-minded faith. Fortunately he has a wake-up call and eventually gets the message about being a true missionary. How Lizzie finds eventual acceptance and reconciliation with her family is a wonderful tale of forgiveness and peace. Kim Vogel Sawyer is the author of more than twenty novels including many CBA bestsellers. Rating: 3 —MF ( )

When Clay Selby and his step-sister Vivian travel to the frontier of Alaska to be missionaries to the Athabascan people, one wonders just how they will make it in the rough wilderness.

Clay has a heart for winning the native people to the Lord. Vivian wants to teach.

When Vivian is befriended by an ostracized native girl, their mission almost comes to a screeching halt. But when God has a plan, Man need only hold on for the ride!

This is a must read for good Christian historical novels. It is also a love story, of the very tender and sweet kind.

Be sure to have a hanky on hand. You WILL be touched and warmed through and through by A Whisper of Peace.
