In this fourth of the erotic novels of Robert Walter Marks writing as John Colleton, we learn of the beginnings of the relationship between two of his principal characters, Bill Benton and Cloris, Lady Cholmondeley. Other erotic entanglements involved in this phase of the complex web of intrigue described by Colleton include the seduction of an Italian maid, Caterina and her brother, and Cloris’ daughter Nancy. Cloris’ English lord husband starts a hunt to trace the lovers who have cuckolded him as they journey around some of the most picturesque parts of northern Italy. This book is rather more erotic in its scenarios and descriptions than its predecessors. It is particularly entertaining as a beautifully described romp through Italy, replete with libidinous interludes, and its elegant, atmospheric treatment of amorous intrigues make it a very good read. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Erotic cinematography is a chief cultural concern of the book. There are some curious allusions to esotericism, such as a quick pair of references to Pico and Plethon (128, 130), and Lord Cholmondeley's duties with the Knights of Malta.
The quasi-autobiographical tenor of the book involves a lot of authorial introspection. Bill often mentions his anxiety that he wasn't writing about his adventures, or observing them astutely enough to write about them later. But the novel is full of dry wit along with the wet sex, and the pacing is both relaxed and inviting, even with troubles shadowing the main characters.
