A sentimental tribute - a memorial hardcover edition published in Oct 2012. A lovely book of short, easily read reminiscences and edifying stories and thoughts. If you are one of those people who engages in daily devotionals, this book would be a lovely addition to that time in your day. Sort of like a combination of listening to your Grandfather's stories, and advice and a visit with your spiritual leader. Father Reiser Writes With Passion, Conviction and Confidence… I would like to invite you to join me on a spiritual journey that is inspiring, illuminating and heartening. Fr. Bernard Reiser is clearly a man who loves God, family, the church community, and a good bowl of ice cream. For nearly forty years, Reiser served as the beloved founding pastor at Epiphany parish in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, where he penned his thoughts and life stories for a column in the weekly bulletin. His words were so well received, that after his retirement he purposefully assembled the best of his writing into a collective volume. Each included column is like a shared meditation as Reiser touches on topics as varied as nature's beauty, baseball, gratitude, teamwork, marriage, and eternity. The author's musings and personal reminiscences are often thought-provoking and infused with simple messages meant to inspire each reader's own spiritual ponderings. From life on the family farm, to a life in the priesthood, Reiser draws on a wealth of experience for his writing. Valuable life lessons were extracted from both common everyday situations, as well as those related to his ecclesiastical duties. Inspiration also came from Reiser's journey around the globe. In particular he reflects on his visit to Haiti, a country whose poverty he classifies as "Fourth World." The author was so moved by Haiti's plight that in a selfless gesture he founded Reiser Relief, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the people of the impoverished Caribbean country. Indicative of Reiser's generous heart and spirit, all profits from the sale of his Ramblings will go to the Haitian relief effort.… (más)

Reiser Relief Inc is honored to announce the release of a "Memorial" hardcover edition of Reiser's Ramblings by our late founder, Father Bernard Reiser.

"We couldn't be happier with the way the hardcover edition of Reiser's Ramblings has come together, it looks great and we are so happy with the design of the book" noted Ann Brau - Reiser Relief President and niece of author Fr, Reiser.

"We are proud to honor Father with a sentimental tribute by offering a "memorial" hardcover version of his book. I'm sure he would find the recognition to be both humbling and heartwarming."

All profits from the sale of Reiser's Ramblings go to Haitian relief efforts sponsored by Reiser Relief. ( )

When I was approached with the request to review this book, there was no way I could say no. ALL proceeds from the sales of 'Reiser's Ramblings' go to Reiser Relief Inc which in turn goes to relief efforts in Haiti.

To start with, you may be interested in the fact that I am not Catholic. I do, however, have a strong belief that we can learn from all religions and points of view if we keep our minds and hearts open. Father Reiser gives us lots to consider in this collection of his columns written over time. The columns are separated into six sections: Early Life and Key Influences; The Wonder of God's Creation; Our Place in God's World; Counting Our Blessings; God's Grace at Work Within Us; All Eyes on Heaven. Each column is titled and short. So we end up with a lovely book of short, easily read reminiscences and edifying stories and thoughts.

If I could offer some advise for those of you that decide to pick up this book it would be this: don't read it all at once. There is so much packed into these few pages that it requires the reader to ponder the message and meaning in each column and how, or if, it applies to each individual life. If you are one of those people who engages in daily devotionals, this book would be a lovely addition to that time in your day. Consider such topics as 'freedom is a basic right of humanity' (pg 82) and 'small annoyances can rub like sandpaper' (pg 192). There are words of wisdom on each topic and direction from a humble servant of God.

'Reiser's Ramblings' is straightforward and worthwhile. Sort of like a combination of listening to your Grandfather's stories and advise and a visit with your spiritual leader. ( )

Father Reiser injects an idea that makes you ponder, then, with words of love, Reiser shares his trust in God and lets the reader know there is hope for humankind,” ( )

Where there is a need for faith, he met that need. "Reiser's Ramblings: A Collection of Columns by the Founding Pastor of Epiphany Parish in Coon Rapids, Minnesota" is a collection of thoughts from Bernard Reiser as he recollects his own journey forward, founding a parish in a growing Minnesota town and traveling the world to spread goodwill and faith to those around the world. Working with victims of poverty and disaster in Haiti, "Reiser's Ramblings" is a story of a good man with the drive to bring more good through the world, highly recommended.

It typically was late each Sunday before I’d have an opportunity to set down on paper my thoughts for the columns that would become the weekly Reiser’s Rambling. Often, it was midnight and the only sound in the rectory was the hum coming from the refrigerator. I would sit at the kitchen table – always with a bowl of ice cream because that is my favorite treat – and look at the blank page. Before I’d start I’d offer this quick prayer: “God, what will we write about this week?”

My first memories go back to the farm where my parents, Aloys and Ottilia Reiser, raised me, my brother, and my three sisters during the Great Depression. My father was a truck farmer, meaning the vegetables and meat he raised were trucked into the Minneapolis Farmers Market for sale every day. Farming was a difficult way to support a family during the Great Depression yet my father never faltered in his faith that God would provide for us. My father never said, “We’ll try” when telling us something needed to get done. Instead, he told us, “We will!” This lesson in perseverance was one all of his children took to heart.

God loves each of us uniquely Travel is a wonderful experience and a great privilege. It gives one a great awareness of the tremendous diversity among people and their ways of living. Each has its own unique culture and traditions, and when one sees the wide range of diversity among people, it gives an insight into the infinitude of Almighty God. Each culture has only a small portion of that vast wealth that is the God of Heaven and Earth. Traveling is a humbling experience. As you make your way through a large foreign city, whether it be in Europe, Africa or the Near East, where no one knows you or few understand your language, you could fall over dead on the street and cause very little stir indeed.
