Deadman's quest continues as planned, but the white ring is still being pretty mysterious. It's more of the same of Vol 1, with some higher stakes for Aquaman, Firestorm, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkman & Hawkgirl, all of whom are trying to figure out why they're corrupted and trying to tie up the loose ends of their lives.

It's okay. I think I like Firestorm's story best, with Aquaman coming in a close second. JJ has some pretty interesting minfuqry going on. The hawklovers probably has the weirdest story that required me to get off my butt and look up their gold and silver ages and try to reconcile the shit out of them on the fly, and I did it, but wth I'm still not overly impressed.

I like the idea that Firestorm can potentially stop or restart the freaking universe. It kinda puts things in perspective. :)

So here's for the White Hats and the Black Hats out there... it's all Tao, dude. :) ( )

In this follow-up to the Blackest Night story arc, all of the characters who were resurrected by the white lantern find themselves struggling to understand why they were brought back. No one struggles more than Boston Brand (aka Deadman) who spent his time as a superhero dead. Boston also has far more invested in this mystery than anyone else as his is the only white lantern ring that has not disappeared and that appears to be taking Boston on a quest that is entirely part of the ring's own agenda.

Really solid arc with some interesting exploration of the backstory of a lot of the characters in the DCU, particularly Deadman, Aquaman, Firestorm, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, J'onn J'onzz, and Hawk and Dove. While the ultimate reveal of the end goal of the white ring felt a bit underwhelming after all the build up, there is some fascinating character development going on here. If you liked Blackest Night, this follow-up series is worth picking up. ( )

More of the stories of the newly no longer dead. An interesting trip through Martin Manhunter's mind. More Firestorm, 'who's the floating head and who's the body' drama between Ronnie and Jason as well. (Apparently they might be able to cause a second Big Bang, destroy the universe, that sorta thing).

Aquaman also goes up against Black Manta and then goes on a journey to try and find another Son of Atlantis who was raised by humans.

We even got more Deadman stuff, him trying to figure out, does he want to be dead or alive.

Another good part of the Brightest Day story line, unfortunately it, like Volume One has quite the cliff hanger, the only downside to the TPB. ( )
