It is time to feed the dragon, so the villagers send Oscar, a boy who would rather cook dinner than be dinner. Putting his culinary skills to the test, Oscar shows the dragon that filet mignon and banana splits are much more delicious than children.

A challenged book, but very clever and unique. This book is a little silly as it can teach children bravery and how to use their resources. I would use this book for older classrooms as the book does focus on a dragon wanting to eat humans.

Oscar and the very hungry dragon is a story about a hungry dragon who feeds on princesses, but when there are no princesses left the town decides to draw children's names from a hat, and a boy named Oscar was chosen to be the dragons next meal. Oscar is a very skinny and smart little boy he uses his cleverness to trick the dragon into allowing him to fatten up before he feasts on him. After convincing the dragon to go grocery shopping for him so he can make himself some delicious meals the dragon smells what he is cooking and Oscar tells the dragon to eat dinner with him to satisfy his hunger while Oscar fattens up. Each day the dragon would ask to see Oscars finger to see if hes gotten fatter and Oscar being a cunning young man uses a twig as his finger to trick the dragon into thinking he was still skinny and once the dragon realizes how hes been tricked Oscar convinced him that if he gets eaten then he will no longer have Oscar to cook delicious meals for him, and Oscar outsmarted the dragon once again. A Great book for teaching kids about patience and friendship. The dragon is looking for a princess to eat but gets Oscar instead. Oscar outsmarts the dragon to create an unlikely friendship. ( )
