This book is probably groundbreaking for someone who has lived under a stone for the last 200 years. It's standard liberal Christianity combined with a tiresome arrogance - or better: intellectual snobbery - of "Most Christians will get a shock when they read this book because it claims something different from what they have been taught their whole life". For example: "Students are often troubled to learn that some of the gospel stories of Jesus may not have actually happened just as they are reported". I've heard that claim like a thousand times now, so "no" this book doesn't destroy my fantasy world and "no" this books isn't as groundbreaking as it claims. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

It particularly focuses on the role of a number of empires in the formation of the Biblical canon. Explores the historical role the Bible has played in subsequent empires, and its enduring influence in the contemporary world, resulting in a balanced overview of the historical forces that shaped the canon Explores topics including: the formation of the Pentateuch, the development of the earliest Old Testament stories, the historical study of the Gospel traditions surrounding Jesus; the influence of Roman rule in the provinces where Paul spent much of his ministry; and the interpretation of the Biblical texts and their use by different faith communities Incorporates numerous student-friendly features throughout, including study questions, review sections, bibliographies, timelines, and illustrations and photos No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
