Aboard the good ship, The Searcher, Todd and his friends are sad because they can’t play soccer, unless you count virtual soccer, which is nothing like the real thing. Fortunately for Todd and his friends the ship’s captain organizes a space soccer game at a nearby planet. After a lot of practice, Todd and company win, and everyone is pleased. This book was difficult to read due to very, very short sentences and small words. It did not hold my interest. The line illustrations were needed to describe what was going on in some cases, for example, I had no idea what it meant by virtual soccer—in my mind I saw something like the holodeck in Star Trek—but because there was a line drawing of a boy in a futuristic suit with a technical-looking helmet on, I was able to figure it out. There are science fiction elements in this story, all having to deal with living life on a space ship. The story is partly believable, in that while it's easy to imagine a kid obsessed with soccer, it's harder when you realize that he's never seen nor played the game before the start of the story, and is obsessed. The story is logical and consistent within the framework established by the author. While this book has a third grade reading level, according to Accelerated Reader’s website, the interest level is supposed to be middle grades. I would assume this is a “hi/low” book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
