A beautiful book that I received as a beautiful gift. You'd be pleasantly surprised at how the NYC wastewater treatment plant is rendered. ( )

Love the stream of consciousness writing and the art. Principles of Uncertainty is my favorite of hers (so far), but all are wonderful. Look forward to tracking down more of her titles. Love her website as well! https://mairakalman.com/ ( )

I love Maira Kalman. I love how she thinks about things. I wish I could feel less cynical about the people running this country. ( )

A gorgeous, fun and eclectic graphic tour of significant people and places in early American history, with thoughtful commentary on democracy as well as numerous other random and charming observations. I'm surprised I hadn't encountered Kalman's work previously, as she is quite prolific. I like the insightful way she thinks, and it seems like she'd be fun to hang out with. ( )

This book should be read by anyone who thinks liberals, Democrats etc. don't love America. Maira Kalman's wonderful drawings, paintings and the occasional photograph, as well as her ruminations on Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, soldiers at Fort Campbell, civil servants in New York, the Supreme Court, a Vermont town meeting -- and many other topics -- show a deep love for this country. I believe the book was originally a blog at the New York Times; I had seen some of the work before, but it is well worth looking at again. It amazes me that this book, which must weigh about 5 lbs. because it's all color plates, only has a list price of $30. Highly recommended. ( )
