Cranes by Lisa Bullard is a good book to teach machinery to preschool and kindergarten. It has some nice close-up photos that go along with the text and vocabulary. Bold words are used in the text and they are the words that are found in the Glossary, The Accelerated Reading Level is 3.0, there is a facts page, a diagram page, an index page, and a page that has suggestions of other books to read, and a section that recommends other websites for more information. This book would be useful to a teacher who is teaching a lesson on machinery, as well as a good book for children to read. I found this book worked good with my first graders who were reading above level, yet couldn’t handle books with a lot of text. ( )
