Cargando... Fear No Evil (Alex Cross, 27) (edición 2021)por James Patterson (Autor)Alex and John Sampson are at their best battling a Mexican Drug cartel as well as the men sent after them by M. There is plenty of action. I rated this book 4 stars because the part with Bree in Paris added nothing to the Cross and Sampson investigation. I'm also okay with less family interaction because for me that distracts from the stories. Another great one by James Patterson. Alex Cross and his friend John Sampson are preparing for a much needed break in the wilderness of Montana, when duty calls, postponing the trip. A top CIA official has just been murdered and there was a searing confession pinned to them. Then there is another attack, but this one in retaliation. Across the country, there is another murder with confession. Both Alex and John get messages from M, their long time nemesis, goading them with information that shows he has very, very close connections to those in high places. As the actions ramps up, so do the stakes. Doctor Alex Cross and Detective John Samson are about to set off for a week of outdoor rough-and-tumble in the Bob Marshall Wilderness deep in the rough and unforgiving Montana wilderness. But a gruesome murder of a CIA agent sidelines their trip and throws them into an FBI investigation of similar “confession murders” complicated by the horrific extermination of the victims’ families by a vicious Mexican cartel. Meanwhile, Bree’s new employers, the private security firm Bluestone Group, sends her to Paris to investigate the founder of Pegasus, suspected of sexual harassment and abuse. Under the guise of setting up shell companies for businesses, she sets out to investigate Philippe Abelmar. And, after a protracted silence, M once again contacts Alex and John. ========= In this, the twenty-ninth outing for the venerable Alex Cross, readers will find all the expected characters firmly entrenched in the telling of a story filled with non-stop action. Well-drawn, believable, nuanced characters populate the telling of the tale that, with its strong sense of place [especially in the Bob Marshall Wilderness], is sure to pull readers into the narrative from the outset. With sufficient backstory for readers new to the series, the book works well as a stand-alone. The author's trademark short chapters serve to keep things rushing along. Surprising revelations keep the pages turning as unexpected events ramp up the tension while the palpable suspense soars into the stratosphere. Ultimately, all the plots and subplots come together nicely with a denouement that is sure to please. Fans of the series will find much to appreciate here; newcomers are likely to be staunch Alex Cross fans before they’ve turned the final page. And there’s always that hint of something still to come . . . . Highly recommended. |
