The book, Our Stars by Anne Rockwell, is an introductory book to space. It talks about stars, the moon, constellations, meteors, and comets. There is a picture that goes along with every new term they introduce in the book and the author uses kid friendly language to introduce the concepts of space. The book touches on the importance of the stars and sun in changing seasons and on the historical impact that stars had.
I liked this book because it touched on all of the important vocabulary and introductory topics of space but also leaves more room for inquiry and explanation.
This book is a good starting place for a unit on space. I would read it aloud with my students, create a KWL chart, and then dive into a unit on space. ( )

This is a book that tells about the sun, stars, and planets, and how they are related to each other. The book used a combination of pictures, and diagrams, to show what the words are describing. This book has some bigger words in it, so it would be difficult for a beginning reader to use. I would definitely use this book with my class to introduce a unit on outer space, or the sun and stars. The book relates the sun and moon to realistic things, like how and why we see the sun and moon, and describes why the moon doesn't always look the same. The book also mentions history, because it describes how people used to think the start constellations meant something. I really like this book for an informational book!

This book is for young children that give general information about the stars, solar system and the moon. This is an easy to read book that gives facts about the stars, sun, constellations.. There are short sentences on each page with a picture. The language that it is written in is easy to comprehend and interesting. This is a great introduction for students when studying about the world in science. Because of the simplicity of the story children will more easily engage the book. This is much more interesting than a text book with lots of vocabulary! ( )

Some extensions to reading this book would to take a virtual tour of the solar system online. Another activity would be to build a mobile. We include the new words on a word wall with a picture of what it is.
