A short (fortunately!) reflection on ending up. It started with the wake after a funeral in which the attendees all tell us, in an aside, how and when they themselves are going to die. A brief middle section is an effective monologue about the main protagonist's experience of death, ending up with a blinding flash followed by silent darkness. The extraordinary, and drawn out, end was a dialogue-free loop of the central character in a care home transferring from bed to easy chair and back again, changing from pyjamas to day clothes assisted by an attentive but mute nurse. I lost count of the number of cycles.
It wasn't exactly entertaining but certainly thought provoking. It really would have suited the Dorfman much more than the Lyttleton.… (más)
