A History Of The First World War In 100 Objects: In… por John Hughes-Wilson
A staid British slightly jingoistic history of the war divided into chapters where each chapter has an image of a thematically central object from the British War Museums. You can read it right through, but the chapters also stand alone. It is an attractive book and (but?) unreferenced. The author claims that the expression "chatting"as in schmoozing comes from times when WWI soldiers were talking and picking chats (lice) from themselves. This seems to be almost certainly incorrect.
Entertaining, though by its nature fairly shallow, guidebook to the Churchill War Rooms underneath Whitehall in Central London. The presentation does give you a nice flavour for what the rooms would have been like when they were in serious use.

De Belfast behoort tot de Town-klasse, welke was ontworpen als antwoord op de Japanse Mogami-klasse kruisers. Het was het eerste schip van de Royal Navy dat werd vernoemd naar de Noord-Ierse hoofdstad. De tewaterlating vond plaats op St. Patrick’s Day: 17 maart 1938.
De Belfast heeft een lengte van 187 meter en is 19,3 meter breed. Het schip heeft een waterverplaatsing 11,550 ton. De primaire bewapening van het schip bestond bij de oplevering uit 12 15 cm kanonnen, die elk 8 schoten per minuut konden lossen.
