336. Revolution and Freemasonry 1680-1800, by Bernard Fay (read 4 Nov 1947) This was assigned to be read by Father Bill Green, my college teacher in a course called 'French Revolution and Napoleon'. Don't remember too much about it, but if you put the author in Google you will find that he is very controversial, and apparently spent time in prison for collaboration with Nazis during the Occupation. But he also helped Gertrude Stein and her partner during the occupation. It does appear that Fay had huge dislike for Freemasons, and I am sure this book reflected that and described the role of Masons in re the French Revolution--a role monarchists would deplore but others would commend.… (más)

This scholarly biography contains 20 Illustrations, with detailed descriptions of each page plate of the portraits,cartoons, maps, and woodcuts. Fanklin dominated the political, scientific, religious, and mercantile world of his time. His example "defined the principles of the bourgeousie". The great shift of the age was dropping the assumption that "titled nobility" was somehow necessary.

Professor Fay provides proof of Franklin's role. This evidence is critical today to give the lie to those contemporary plutocrats who attempt to distort the ideas of this Founder. He despised slavery, but not Southern folks. He despised religious intolerance, but not spiritual believers. He did not carry a gun nor did he think assassinating public servants was a way to protect liberty.… (más)
