In case they bring out an English translation (don't think one's come out yet?), just a note to say this review is in response to the original French version. Another sweet and educational tale (not adjectives I'd often place in close proximity) but not quite as enjoyable for me as the first in the series, La Grammaire est une chanson douce. In part, indeed largely, I put that down to the fact that I don't feel particularly pleased with the way the main character, Jeanne, is heading. She's gone from being a cheeky, curious and head-strong youngster to a bit of a typical, i.e. stereotypical, girly girl who wants to think about love and knows how to batter her eyelids to flatter a boy (in this case her brother, which is a bit of a worry!) I guess it's a small issue in the scheme of things, but it annoyed me. I really liked Jeanne in the first book, and since she pretty much carries the story it would have been helpful if she hadn't been turned into a cardboard cutout version of a female quite so much. Aside from that problem, I found the French challenging enough to keep me on my toes just a little, plus, of course, it gave me a greater understanding of the French language (and the subjunctive in particular.)
