WHERE SHADOWS DANCE BY C.S. HARRIS is the 6th in the Sebastian St.Cyr series.

Lord Sebastian St Cyr is a young handsome man, living in England's 1800's. Even though Sebastian is a lord,he is also a criminalist, trying to solve those murders that he finds interesting. In WHERE SHADOW'S DANCE, he is called to the home of his best friend Dr.Paul Gibson. Gibson is an anatomist, he illegally procured dead bodies by buying them from grave robbers. This is HIGHLY illegal and could see him in jail or worse.
Gibson gets the body of a government official who has supposedly died of heart disease at a very young age. What Gibson finds is murder and of course calls on his friend to find the killer without exposing Gibson. What comes next is murder upon murder all in the name of good government .

I have become rather hooked on this series. The characters, their actions and their humor makes the Sebastian St Cyr series one of my favorites. This series offers the readers a mix of genre's . Mystery/historical fiction/romance and just a sprinkle of humor. ( )

Sebastian gets involved in a complicated investigation involving many suspects, different countries and various motives. I enjoy this author’s writing style but I had trouble keeping track of all the suspects so the story lost momentum for me. I still like Sebastian and Hero and enjoyed reading about their ups and downs. This is the least favorite of the books I’ve read in this series but I liked it enough to want to continue with the series. ( )

You can’t help but love Sebastian St. Cyr. He is a likable and honorable man as well as an aristocratic sleuth. He’s a rebel to the Ton and yet is easily accepted in their orbit. Every branch of the ruling government asks for his help to solve these complicated murder cases. Ms. Harris has plenty of fodder for many, many future books…which is a good thing. We hope to see how he deals with his love for Kat and his attraction to Hero Jarvis who has just reluctantly become his wife for very noble reasons. We are also waiting to learn the identity of his real father and the whereabouts of his mother. It seems that each book in this series just gets better and better. Maybe it’s because the reader sees the characters continue to grow and change. The entire series thus far has been historical fiction at it’s very best. ( )

Sebastian St. Cyr mystery #6
Every bit as intriguing as Where Serpents Sleep. Very different story, beginning with the surgeon, Paul Gibson, discovering that a body he hired Jumpin' Jack to disinter was not a natural death. Harris has created a complex plot that borders at times on a Gothic farce (enjoyable none the less). As in earlier books, the author includes interesting historical background and brings forward the focus on the social injustice common to this era.

I value this scholarly slant and realistic portrayal of the characters. The fiction feels genuine and the people are distinctive, as if drawn from life. Hero Jarvis is painted with an assertiveness and independence that guarantees she won't become something of a cardboard character, which I felt characterised Kat Boleyn. ( )

Best installment in the series so far! Overflowing with family dynamics, political intrigues, suspense and drama, even the mystery is a goodie as Sebastian tries to connect the dots. As with previous books in the series, Harris continues to provide readers with an intricate mystery, great bantering dialogue and some raised eyebrow moments (like when Sebastian and Gibson have to figure out how to return a body to its grave), providing moments of levity to an otherwise dark mystery. The anatomist side of Gibson's practice leads to some interesting revelations in keeping with the time period and the verboten activity of grave robbing. Who knew that was such a lucrative business for some! While I am starting to see a pattern to Harris' story-telling, she continues to mix things up, providing some unexpected moments of high suspense to keep the story rolling along at a good clip. The tension that continues to exist between our two strong-willed characters (Sebastian and Hero) is palpable but does not try to overshadow the mystery and turn it into a historical romance.

Overall, this series continues to captivate me and cannot wait to start the next book in the series. ( )

The old tree groans to the blast,

The falling branch resounds.

The wind drives the clung thorn

Along the sighing grass,

He shakes amid the night.

Dark, dusky, howling is night,

Cloudy, windy, full of ghosts;

The dead are abroad, my friends

receive me from the night.
