The Outside Shot by Walter Dean Myers is not your cliche: underprivilegded, African American teenager stuck in the crossroads of what to do with his life. Play ball? Go to college? Fix games? Give up? Rather, it comes across as a living biography. By this, I mean, it appears as if the events happening to this young protagonist are occuring in the moment. Every hardship, every struggle, every jump shot. Everything. Right now.

But what happens when the clock strikes twelve and that moment is up?
