Moon is a boy that has been raised and living his entire life in the forest with his paps. Now Paps is dead and Moon is lonely. In this story, Moon goes through lots of struggles with the law, loneliness, and discovering the world outside the forest. This book will draw readers in with Moon's unique view of the world. Alabama Moon does have some mature themes within it. It is best for high school students.

A truly gripping book that combines coming of age with outdoor survival. MG rather than YA, but one that more or less crosses over between the too. I love this novel. ( )

This book is about a young boy, Moon who is raised in the forest. His mother died when he was young and he doesn't remember much of her, and his father recently passed and Moon was responsible for his burial. His father was anti-government and gave Moon directions on what to do after his passing. Moon is trying his best to make it to Alaska, as his father instructed. In Alaska, there are others who want to live government free. While following these instructions Moon has obstacles with the law and group homes. Will he escape and live the life he wants to? Does he want the life his father instructed?
I enjoyed this book, however, I feel as if some chapters moved slowly in describing survival techniques and situations in the wilderness. ( )

I wasn't really sure if I would like this book when I started reading it. It reminded me of books like Hatchet and My Side of the Mountain which haven't been my favorites. That being said, I quickly got sucked in to the story line and was on pins and needles wondering what would happen to Moon, a boy raised by his father in the woods to trust no one. After his father dies, he ends up in a boy's home but determines to break out and return to the wilderness. He meets two other boys and learns about friendship and that it is okay to trust and rely on others. This was a really good book and I like how the author chose to end it. ( )

This was a good young adult story of a young boy trying to find his way in life. I didn't realize that it was for a grade school or middle school reader when I borrowed it but I ended up really liking this tale. I would recommend.. ( )
