Written as an introduction to the popular, educational virtual world of Quest Atlantis, Two Worlds, One Fate is a concise science-fictional tale about just what people are capable of. Centered around a group of young people determined to stop a pair of self-centered rulers from ruining the fair continent of Atlantis, the story is full of cut-and-dry moral issues and blatant calls for social responsibility. Characterization is fairly flat, dialogue is simple, chapters are brief and the plot is direct and predictable--yet this all contributes to this short novel being an effective teaching tool. This story only begins to spur students towards the type of thought and self-reflection that is so nurtured in the computer program, which is its exact purpose. As a stand-alone book, it would leave the reader confused and frustrated. As the introduction that it is, however, it excels. ( )
