I loved this book! I love any book that inspires students to be themselves and that it exactly what this story does. ( )

Though this book seems to be a typical girly fairy book, it really has more meaning. It shows girls that they do not have to follow the feminine norms, and are amazing no matter what their interests are. I think this is a good read for both boys and girls to instill in them the idea that girls have more interests than just flowers and sparkles.

Emmelina would rather be playing in the mud with her pond friends than acting like a fairy. When the fairy test comes she keeps messing up because she just wants to have fun and play in the mud! She thinks she is never going to earn her wings become a true fairy until she finds what she is truly good a doing! I would recommend this book to students 3rd-5th grade. ( )

Not like the other fairies, this fairy does not fit the stereotype of the other fairies and would rather play in the mud with all of the creatures. The other fairies exclude her until she passes the test to become a true fairy.
Not excluding others for being different.

Theme: stay true to yourself, finding yourself
Emmalina is a fairy, but not a gentle and natural fairy. She is a tomboy and gets in trouble.
When she needs to earn her fairy wings she stays true to herself and helped the baby tadpoles. She taught what she knew best, leap frogging and mudding.
