A black Labrador named Sally goes for a ride after following the smell of fried chicken into the gondola of a hot air balloon. Her adventure attracts attention as people think of ways to rescue her. Eventually, a child thinks of a way to use Sally’s playfulness to come down from the clouds. The story ends with Sally helping herself, which is empowering for children to read. Stephen Huneck writes at a slow pace, careful to avoid frightening young readers. Huneck’s illustrations are large, colorful, and simple. Sally is likeable and relatable to children with pets.
