Excerpt from Der Schuss Von Der KanzelIt has long been the belief of the editor that the work of Conrad F. Meyer is well worthy of increased attention in the American schools. SO far as is known to the editor, only one of his works has been made accessible in text-book form. Der Schuj}} van der Kanzel has been selected because of its interest to the student, due to its delightful humor and historic background, and because of the healthy sentiment that inspires it.In the preparation of the vocabulary, it has been the aim to combine completeness with conciseness. SO an attempt has been made to give not only the special definition of the words as used in the text, but also the more usual or gen eral meaning, when the two are different. The notes are intended to be suggestive as well as explanatory, and syno nyms are given whenever, in the opinion of the editor, they will assist in increasing the vocabulary of the student. The exercises are designed to give the student opportunity to test his mastery of the words acquired in reading the text. The spelling has been revised in accordance with the latest (seventh) edition of Duden's Orthographisches Wb'rtcrbuch.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
