One of Andre Norton's first books, the first in a trilogy about a young man involved in the Dutch resistance. This book begins during the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands, shifts to the Dutch East Indies just before and during the Japanese conquest (an interesting unusual moment --I had not thought of the DEI being free for over a year after the fall of the Netherlands and making a serious, though unsuccessful, attempt to prepare to resist)--the briefly the coat of Australia, then across the U.S. and back to the Netherlands. As this suggests, it is a bit choppy. The boy is the heir to the House of Norreys who are jewelers, and he is entrusted by his dying grandfather with the responsibility for a precious necklace called The Flowers of Orange, which he has to return to the Netherlands to retrieve.. The story is competent but I think Norton's SF/fantasy is usually better. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Few authors have achieved such renown as World Fantasy Life Achievement honoree and Science Fiction Writers of America Grand Master Andre Norton. With the love of readers and the praise of critics, Norton's books have sold millions of copies worldwide. The House of Norreys--those merchants of gems for over three hundred years--faces its greatest crisis ever: the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. The old Jonkheer lay dying in his bed when he called his grandson to be with him in the last hours of his life, and at this time, young Lorens van Norreys is entrusted with the future of Norreys. That future lies in the legendary Flower of Orange, a priceless baroque necklace that the Nazi scavengers burn to possess. It is up to Lorens to save the necklace and the House of Norreys. With the first encounter with the Nazi invaders, Lorens faces his challenge as The Sword Is Drawn. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
