There are a few reasons why I enjoyed this book. The first reason is the language throughout the book. Even though it is an informational chapter book, the writer made it interesting using language. One line in the book is, "Since he didn't have a tape measure long enough, he used his deep-thinking noggin." The word noggin makes the sentence more interesting and is a silly word that children would enjoy. The book continues to use these fun words throughout the book like "weather gang" and it makes jokes while teaching information. The second reason I like this book is because it is nonfiction. This is a great resource that can be used to learn about Earth and all of the different parts of it. The chapters are broken down into sections that make it easy to read and understand. There are side bars under the main text that add more information. The third reason I like the book is the illustrations. They are drawings that help the reader understand what the text is saying. The pictures help inform while also being colorful and entertaining. The main idea of this book is to inform about the Earth. ( )

This was one of the more interesting informational books I read. Although it was an informational book, it included fictional, clipart like characters. These characters helped make otherwise dry information more interesting. I also loved how the book was set up. There were several sections, each pertaining to a part of the earth. They were titled cute things like “the insiders” “landlubbers” and “the weather gang.” Each page in the book is laid out in an encyclopedia style with a glossary in the back. Another thing I liked was that the book included a foldout poster. All of these things combined made this book fun and informational at the same time. The main idea of this book was to inform the reader about the planet that we live on – earth. ( )
