This has all the intrigue and horror of classic King but does not feel as complete or polished as his later novels. The heroes are just a random group of unremarkable people and although they make poor decisions during their battle, they show true bravery. If the tale of Jerusalem's Lot happened in real life, this is how a few brave people would try to beat it, not in some fantastical way like Hollywood would say . This realism and realistic description of the people in the sleepy little town is what makes this a truly terrifying story This is one of those Stephen King books that I thought I read a long time ago but I didn't! I really loved this one. I could probably do without every character's backstory but that's just how most Stephen King books are. This is a great spooky read for October! I can not really see how anyone thinks this is scary, but to each his own. Great plot and characters, but the book seemed drawn out longer than necessary. I thought the last quarter of the book somewhat of a slog. If I had read this when I was a teen or preteen, it would have really scared me. I suspect that the many people who recommended it to me and said how frightening it is read it when they were younger. I did listen to it on audio book, so maybe that tainted the experience. It just didn't scare or impress me that much. I liked Mark Petrie more than any of the other characters, and I wish there had been a lot more of him. The descriptions of New England were my favorite parts of the book, especially the description of fall. The dialogue was my least favorite-pretty cheesy. I'll try more Stephen King, but I was disappointed by this one. The story is pretty well-built, slowly setting up the characters and the setting, slowly showing how the vampire ruins the entire town. The only thing I'm not buying is how many people were turned in such a short time: how could a vampire population like that ever survive in the long run? They'd run out of prey way too quickly.
I also highly disliked
But yes, much scary, such vampires, very bloody. (
