Genre: Informational
Review: This informational book is about woolly mammoths. The book talks about the frozen tundra where mammoths lived, the history and migration patterns of the woolly mammoths, their physical aspects, and "mammoth finds," or discoveries of mammoth skeletons. A lot of the book talks about the Jarkov mammoth, the most preserved and intact woolly mammoth to ever be found. I think this book is a good informational book- there are many pictures that support the text, as well as language that is interesting and age-appropriate. It also has a reputable author and publisher. The information is presented in an exciting way. The book is a little text-heavy and focuses primarily on the Jarkov mammoth, which is very valuable information, but still one instance of a mammoth find. It would be nice to have a little more info on other mammoths.
Uses: I would use this book in class to aid in a research project about woolly mammoths. It would also be good to use when learning about fossils or preservation, as well as the Ice Age and tundras.
Media: Photographs, Watercolor/Acrylic ( )

This non-fiction book is very educational and informative; it includes pretty much all you would need to know about woolly mammoths. This book includes real life pictures of the scientist and their discoveries. There are many facts stated about the mammoths and history behind them too. It includes direct quotes, diaries, geology, fossils, historical backgrounds. I must say this book was pretty amazing. I wish my past teachers would have read us a book like this, because there is just so much information that a movie like "Ice Age" doesn't not even compare. Great book! ( )
