Aother writing handbook - split into three main sections: gathering, shaping and finishing. Takes you through the process from keeping notebooks, diaries and clearing space, to training the eye, to plot, characterisation, point of view and setting and finishes with readig, revising, criticism and how to get published. A very useful book to dip into, with lots of hints and tips on the whole writing process. There are no excercises to complete, just advice and experiences shared in essay format. ( )

A very useful book, with lots of great advice - but quite snobbish - they seem to want you to create a masterpiece that never makes any money, and they sneer at popular fiction. Somewhat repetitive at times and not brilliantly structured, given the large clamour from many different authors. If you're prepared to sift, though, there are some gems of advice in most chapters ( )
