Its very interesting to see how hard work and persistence can pay off. For Honus wagner he had a dream of playing baseball and he kept trying and trying until he was finally noticed and made his dream come true. The story does a good job to give an idea what life was like for all those years ago, which its very interesting to see that he had to work in a mine after 6th grade, and at the age of only 12 i could never imagine doing work like that. Summary: This is story is about a boy that was poor but ended but being the best short stop baseball player. He proved to everyone that he could do what he wanted. HE ended up being known on a baseball card.

Personal Reflection: I like this book because is shows that when you put your mind to something you can do it. It shows children that they can follow there dreams. It is a great book to show.

Classroom reflection: I would use this story to help children understand they can achieve goals with hard work.

The baseball card of Honus Wagner is the most famous baseball card to ever exist. He was not the most handsome, rich, or even athletic person, so how did he become the greatest shortstop of all time? This book teaches kids to follow their dreams. They do not have to be the prettiest, coolest or most coordinated person, but if they strive to achieve their goals, where do you think they could be in 20 years?

I really enjoyed reading this. It helped me to understand the noble life of Honus Wager as well as the reasoning for the unusually high value of his famous baseball card. It's good to read that the rarity of the card is caused by Wagner's stand against a cigarette company using his image to advertise for their company. What a pleasing biography this was! I recommend this to anyone. ( )

This book tells a quick and entertaining biography of Honus Wagner, one of the best baseball players in history. The story starts with Honus' meager beginnings as the son of German immigrants and a cole min worker to his rise through semi-pro and professional baseball. To end his career, Honus coached the Pittsburgh Pirates and was one of the first five men inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Genre: Biography
Critique: This book is a good example of biography because it is very engaging and offers many interesting factual stories from Honus Wagner's life. The author's love for baseball and realization that there was no picture book written about Honus Wagner, helped her research the life of Honus and present it in a entertaining and factual book for all children to read.
