I didn't particularly like the use of nonstandard spelling to convey the accents of the characters. Sometimes it's done well, but here it felt hammy.

It's a good story, though. I remember the first time I thought hard about where all of our garbage goes. I imagined that in my lifetime the whole world would be one big garbage dump. Here's hoping I was just a dramatic child. ( )

Amazing photography and artwork tell the story of the Garbage Barge. What would a town do with 3,168 tons of trash? Meet the Garbage Barge and Cap’m Duffy and find out! Author’s Note.

This book is a humorous way to learn about environmental awareness. I had not heard the true story of the 1987 Garbage Barge before reading. I enjoyed learning about it through this story. The illustrations are very creative. All of the garbage art reminded me of an I Spy book. I think this could be a great way to make students aware of the amount of their own waste and introduce ideas like reduce, reuse, recycle. A good Earth Day book. ( )

This book gives great evidence on how much garbage is within the world. It helps to teach students that recycling is so important. It makes student think deeper into the world. People don't realize how much garbage is produced within the country. It also gives a lot of reference and information about New Orleans. ( )

I like this book because it's based on a true story about garbage barge. As the garbage barge leaves New York, they trying to find a place that allows the garbage to be disposed of. Eventually, there's a problem in the other cities that the barge stops, and the driver has trouble getting rid of the garbage. As time passes, the garbage gets very smelly. The garbage has to be forced to return home and must be destroyed. I believe the theme is recycling because the garbage does get destroyed so when you recycle you can reuse the material again. This is a great story to read to the children because their environment is important, and they should recycle. The children would love this amazing story. ( )
