A nice idea, travelling through the history of Rome, as depicted in various forms of literature. At times, it felt more like a potted history of the city, without much detail about the literary influences of various periods. It really got going towards the end, when there were a wealth of particularly American sources such as Henry James and Edith Wharton, all of whom set out in great detail their thoughts and feelings on this wonderful city.
