"Ever wondered how to predict the weather just by looking at the sky? Or wanted to attract butterflies to your garden? Which items make the perfect high tea? And when do you wang a welly? In this world of traffic tailbacks, supermarket shopping and 24-hour internet access, it s easy to feel disconnected from the beauty and rhythms of the natural world. A perfect Christmas present for 2009, Red Sky at Night combines our growing interest in nature and the British countryside (The Wild Places, Crow Country) with the popular nostalgic infotainment genre (Dangerous Book for Boys, I Before E). It is a book for all those who have gazed in awe at stars in the night sky, caught falling leaves and tried to name their trees, or who ve longed for the comfort of a log fire in their very own home. From recognising animal tracks to making a scarecrow, and from curing a cold to brewing your own ale, Red Sky at Night is packed with instructions and recipes, ancient customs and old"… (más)

This is exceedingly interesting and exceedingly british and I'll probably get a copy of my own just because it has a disparate set of information it would be cool to have around. ( )

This delightful collection of odds and ends of British countryside wisdom make for a perfect read at the end of a long day, by the fireside. Or while drinking tea, or enjoying a glass of wine on the porch while the apple sauce thickens. Short bits of timeless wisdom, some useful (like a handful of recipes for jams and syrups, or lists of the best types of wood to burn in your chimney), other of less practical use (like the rules of fox hunting and where in Britain the practice of cheese rolling is still current). Delightful indeed. ( )
