I liked that it provided terms unique to Alaska so that young children can learn about a different culture. However, it did not provide any details on these terms so children reading this book alone may be very confused. Like I said, I liked that this book broadened reader's perspectives and encouraged them to think about how different a different culture lives. The book introduced a lot of new terms and ideas that young children may have never heard of before (like "ulus") and encourages further research and questioning. Additionally, I liked the language used in this book. The author worked to ascribe alliteration to each letter (for example, the letter "T" said "two tall totem poles") rather than limiting it to just one each. This did not hinder the information of the book but rather gave it a creative flow. The purpose of this book was to give children a small peek into the Alaskan culture.
