Author's Preface -- In preparing this volume on the Gospel of John it has obviously been impossible to comment on the text verse by verse, as I did in the volumes on James and 2 Corinthians which I have already contributed to this series.
INTRODUCTION
I. The Apostolic 'Authorship' of the Gospel
The Fourth Gospel has been designated since the second century 'according to John'; and this has been taken to imply in Christian tradition that the authority of the Apostle John, the son of Zebedee, lies behind it, and that it embodies his testimony to the life and teaching of Jesus.
