G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936) -- critic, novelist, apologist, and general controversialist -- was one of the great Catholic writers of the twentieth century. He brought a distinctive Catholic perspective to history, social concerns, literature, and art -- even to the genre of detective novels in the famous Father Brown mysteries. Chesterton's writing also contains a definite spiritual dimension, displayed not so much in his writing on "spiritual topics" (which he eschewed) as in certain habits of mind and heart.
