I think I snorted twice, that was it. Kinda wanted to know the ending, which was fine. Pretty forgettable, and way too heavy on the music references. Like the author had decided that was going to be her extra angle. Disappointed after reading all the rave reviews here on LT. "I HIGHLY recommend everyone to read this book. Funny, entertaining, and a page-turner are the easiest words to describe it. =0) 4 out of 5 stars!!! PLUS -- throughout the whole book you get these awesome quotes from movies!!" I found the beginning of this story of mismatched neighbours slow out of the gate. The publisher's blurb and a couple of short reviews adequately covered the main elements of the plot, including the happy resolution. Consequently the initial build-up seemed unduly slow. My slight impatience evaporated as I found myself captivated by the quality of Ms Crane's writing. The jokes, the dialogues, the pop references, the sub-plots, and supporting characters made for light, easy and enjoyable reading. I lost sight of the inevitable ending and settled down to enjoy the fun ride. The author's note at the end of the book was unexpectedly original, informative and -- yet again -- fun. What a refreshing, fun read. I laughed out loud more times than I could count while reading, and it was just what I needed. The voice of both Brady and Heaven were so hilariously unique, and their senses of humor were completely in line with mine, hence all the cackling that happened. I do so love a good narrative, especially one that can artfully sprinkle pop culture references throughout, and this one succeeded in both. A couple things made me knock this down from 5 stars: 1) Parts of the book seemed to drag. There were times when I wanted to smack Brady and/or Heaven upside the head and tell them to get their shit together already! 2) There were small details that were inconsistent, where all of the sudden Heaven knew something about Brady that he hadn't previously disclosed, or vice versa. A lot of times, I was scratching my head wondering if I'd missed a page (or ten). And 3) The ending was cute, but totally OOC to me. All in all, though, this was a fun, unique, refreshing read. One that I'll definitely put on my forever-reread list. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

I've read this book more than a few times but this is the first time I've read it this year. Is it the best book I've ever read? Definitely not. But it's hilarious, and sweet, and honestly Heaven's experience working at the restaurant really resonated with me, given my food service industry past. This is one of those books that I turn to when I just want to read a book that I know I'm going to like. There's not a lot of depth to it - I think it's safe to say that it's more of a junk food sort of book than anything.
But sometimes that's exactly what a reader needs. ( )
