The twist was nice, but it seemed a little unrealistic towards the end just because it wasn't fully explained. Basically the start is like this too: it's not paced well and nothing is explained in detail so you don't draw much "horror" from it at all. I mean there is a scene with someone chewing off their own fingers that didn't even frighten me because it was only one sentence long. More detail needed!
The "everyday life in the apocalypse" part was nice, and I did enjoy the "mama" arc, which was a bit scary. For the most part, as I've said I enjoyed this book, it's just that the start and ending feel rushed, and the whole thing could do with a bit more meaning and refinement. ( )
